new on the block

This is such an exciting post for me! I have to say, I’ve never had so much fun working and designing a space! I have been looking forward to designing this room for what seems like a lifetime! This will be my future home for the next 3 years in Auburn.

Where to begin... I know I wanted a lot of pattern in this room, yet I wanted it to be calming with soft fabrics. I also wanted a deep rich wall color. This task seemed quite daunting. Before, the walls were off white, with an accent of wear and tear. The carpet was gross, dirty, and well stained with horrid visualizations of its past. So where did we start? We started by cleaning. And I mean cleaning.

From there we began to paint and install. I decided to do two accent walls with stripes to add interest and depth. This is where I began to bring in my pattern. From there, we layered up. On the floor I placed a fun rug (more pattern) to anchor the room. Then on the bed I layered soft fabrics to simplify things. However, there are still subtle accents of pattern. Moving over to the window, I layered sheers and velvet drapes to create more interest. Then to heighten the ceiling, I added dark gray panels to draw the eye up. To keep the eye going, my dad designed and built a floor to ceiling headboard. Then to balance the headboard, I placed two mirrors to balance. Add some metallic accents and rustic custom shelving, and boom. You’ve got something going.
